The Signal: EP029
June 10th, 2007
The Signal EP029: What happened to hip hop? I was big into it since I was a kid, but in the last few years... the hip hop scene has been boring the hell out of me.
These days, I mostly get my "people rhyming over beats" kicks from UK grime and dancehall collabs with electronic artists. Anyway, I thought it would be an interesting challenge to put together a mix composed of hip hop tracks I'm still interested in.
It's anti-bling, anti-mainstream, multinational and contains some personal experimentation about 18 minutes in. I hope you dig it. It'll be online for a limited time only. Tracklist is inside the mp3's id4 tags.
DJ /rupture's New Gig
June 7th, 2007DJ /rupture has a new weekly gig with WFMU out of New Jersey. This means that we no longer have to struggle through the long weeks or months between new mixes and albums from the DJ who, in my opinion, does the best of bridging all the most interesting subgenres of electronic and international sounds.
Ready for something good? Download the first episode of his show, which aired last night, and set your clocks to listen to WFMU live every Wednesday, 4 PM PST, for the latest and hottest.
Note: /rupture only spins for the first 20 min. of his hour-long show on the above-linked download, then he hands it over to Drop the Lime, who I'm personally less excited about. So there's that.
