The Signal: EP030
July 28th, 2007
The Signal EP030: Wow. The big 3-0. Here we go. This time around, we've got some interesting stuff. European Gypsy-sounding electronica, some dubstep, blues and indie rock, a touch of belly-dancing music and a delightfully slow, glitched out version of a pop classic.
The file will be available for some short period of time, so download as soon as you're able. The tracklisting is in the mp3's id3 tags. Okay! Hup! Hop-la! Geronimo!
Can't Tell Me Nuthin'
July 26th, 2007I've never really felt Kanye West's rapping, though his production is nice and polished. Full credit to him, though, for not appearing in the music video for "Stronger" and allowing comedian Zach Galifinakis take his place.
Alt-folkie Will Oldham plays Zach's sidekick in this video that substitutes the rural life for urban bling.
Maybe it's just me, but I feel that Zach infuses genuine pathos in everything that he does. He may not always be funny, but he's always there in his performance.
Grime City: What It Sounds Like
July 21st, 2007In case you ever saw the live music photos that appear on my Flickr account and wondered what it was we were all listening to, you can get a sample by listening to the Grime City Mixtape. Each of the crew's DJs puts together a mini-set with my friend Emcee Child hosting the whole thing.
Banned & Burned
July 14th, 2007Your ears will probably not like this because you are not like me, but here's a website devoted to the sound of banned albums that were burned (by an artist, all symbolic-like), then played and recorded.
Includes Stravinsky, Mahler, the Sex Pistols, "Louie Louie," and more.
A Simple A+B Mash-Up
July 4th, 2007Dubstep vs. an anonymous family Christmas. It seemed like a good idea at the time.
Free Paavoharju EP
July 1st, 2007When you hear the name Paavoharju, what do you think of?
Have you ever heard that name? Have you ever thought?
It's never too late to start. Here's a free EP from the strange Finnish group of folk/electronic musicians so you can start hearing the name, if not pronouncing it correctly.
Their album Yhä Hämärää is one of the coolest albums I've heard in the last year. I wish they had a US distributor for it, because those import costs are insane.
