The Signal: EP036
November 25th, 2007
The Signal EP036: So much swing, we could open a playground. With one giant swing. For giant children. Or an obese adult. Swing!
I've been finding a lot of high energy early rock-n-roll and R&B, so that makes up a heavier element than usual. Which is good news for those of you less interested in the electronic end of the musical spectrum.
The file is available for a limited time only. The tracks included in the mix are in the id3 tags. After the cut will be a few comments. The small band of visitors knows the deal by now, right? I could probably skip this whole bit.
Jens Lekman covering Paul Simon
November 18th, 2007Jens Lekman, a sweet Swedish pop artist, performed a great cover of Paul Simon's "You Can Call Me Al." Pitchfork has the details and a video link.
Screamin' Jay Hawkins, without the voodoo
November 18th, 2007Over at music weblog elsebasto, you can find an album of music from rock-and-roll freakout king Screamin' Jay Hawkins called The Night and Day of Screamin' Jay Hawkins.
He's singing the songs straight though, which is a nice counterpoint to his crazier tracks like "Frenzy" and "I Put a Spell on You." He even does some Cole Porter. Highly recommended. [via The WFMU Weblog]
Radiohead: Thumbs Down
November 11th, 2007Pitchfork Media notes that a few days back, Radiohead put on a video webcast, complete with odd short films, live performances and some DJing by the band.
You can check out links to significant chunks over at Pitchfork's round-up entry about "Thumbs Down," which is what the webcast got called. Even if you don't feel like watching, there are some links where you can download live versions of songs and a few covers: Bjork & The Smiths.
The Signal: EP035
November 10th, 2007
The Signal EP035: In heaven, everything is fine. Yes indeed! I have some music that the two or three people visiting this website might like. Yup! Oui!
We got some Motown-inspired sounds, a bit of soundtrack weirdness coupled with a rare, noisy indie cover of said weirdness, and the usual mix of sounds you may have come to expect from this place.
Usual deal applies. Up for a temporary time, tracklist in the id3 tags, comments below the cut for those who want to know a bit more.
