The Signal: EP043
April 27th, 2008
The Signal: EP043 - Hot on the heels of 042 comes 043. Why another one so quickly, you may ask. As well you may. Because, you see, I had to work from home this weekend, and making a music mix seemed a fine way to procrastinate from actually working. The work got done, don't worry, so it's win-win-win, all the way around.
This episode has a bit more experimentation than usual. I hope it comes off as more charming than annoying. The track-listing will be in the id3 tags. Available for a limited amount of time. Notes are after the cut.
The Signal: EP042
April 25th, 2008
The Signal: EP042 - Hoo boy. Have we got a mix for you folks. We got a lot of peanut-butter-and-chocolate-style action going on. Some lo-fi indie rock, some British bass goodies, the obligatory strange cover version, the somewhat rare insertion of relevant spoken word stuff, some rock, some international sounds, pretty stuff. Because you deserve it. I guess.
It's the usual deal, but if you just got here and don't know what's up, here's the skinny, the low down: the file is available for a limited amount of time. The tracks are named in the id3 tag. I hope you like it and find something new you'll want to pursue.
Have I really made 42 of these things already? Yeesh.
Notes are under the cut.
The Signal: EP041
April 10th, 2008
The Signal: EP041 - For real this time. Up for a limited time, tracklist is in the id3 tags. An eclectic mix of this and that, thrown together in limited spare time during the evenings of the week when I couldn't be bothered to put on a DVD.
I've decided to change the format of the Signal images so I can fit more image in there. I was getting tired of trying to find landscape images. One sound that opens the mix is from SFIndigo, so thanks for that.
The Ever Generous Internet: Colin Meloy vs Moz
April 7th, 2008I love the internet. I find out something exists, I can't find it on eBay, and a quick Google search gives it to me free.
And guilt-free too.
Colin Meloy sings Morrissey. The lead singer of the Decemberists covers songs from the lead singer of The Smiths.
Thank you, internet!
Field Recording (aka "What was that April 1st post? It wasn't a Signal mix!")
April 6th, 2008On April 1st, I posted what looked to be a new Signal mix. It was not. Maybe you didn't notice.
What it was and is, is a field recording I did of most of my trip home from work on April 1st. It picks up a few blocks from the Embarcadero BART station, incorporates a long stretch of train riding and then walking a few blocks home.
The whole file is heartily recommended to fans of:
a) barely heard conversation
b) loud noises trains make
c) loud noises cars make
That’s it. A more in-depth write-up and a timeline are included after the cut.
Nintendubs
April 3rd, 2008Dubstep, Houston and screw-style hip hop and the bleepy wonder that is Nintendo 8-bit music: a combination made in heaven. You need to hear Squincy Jones' Nintendub to believe it.
Oh, and this weekend I'll explain that April 1st posting. I'm just busy at work and don't have time for the deconstruction it deserves.
The Signal: EP041
April 1st, 2008
The Signal: EP041 - Okay, people, I did some serious digging for this one. I guarantee that you probably have not heard these tracks. And that's a promise I mostly stand behind!
The usual: the track will be up for some unspecified amount of time, so DON'T SLEEP. Tracklist is in the id3 tags. A three dimensional hand passing through a two dimensional world may leave the impression that the fingers are all separate beings, but it's all one hand and that is what we are, in more dimensions than three, all one but passing through space-time.
You understand? Spread-a-sheet? You understand?
