One of the central creative forces behind the monster-themed rockabilly band The Cramps, known to fans as Lux Interior, passed away recently. On WFMU, if you move quickly, you can find an astounding fan archive of music that inspired The Cramps.

A fan would read every interview with The Cramps and, if they mentioned an artist or a song, they'd go track it down. They ended up with 11 volumes (all available right now in .zip form) of "Lux & Ivy's Favorites," way out sounds from rock and blues, surf and rockabilly, that inspired The Cramps' sound.

It's quite a treasure trove!
