A Historic Meeting
by Michael SignalStation
Looking for something unrelated on my desktop, I came across the rough draft of an article I wrote for SF Weekly back when I first came to California. I attended Webzine98 for them and wrote a rambling, fairly terrible article that they put online anyway, after some heavy editing.*
I didn't remember this (so it's a good thing I wrote it down), but apparently Webzine98 was the first time Amanda and I met Mike Sugarbaker.
Much Better Than the Chicken of the Same Source

I was going through the image directory of signalstation, looking for large images that maybe didn't have to be there anymore, when I found the image above.
I have no idea why that was uploaded or what it was used for.
So I figured: I know how I can know what it's for! I can post it! Maybe AGAIN!
So here it is. Now it has a purpose.
Dororo - Tezuka on Film
by Michael SignalStation
Interesting movie news from Japan: This year, a live-action version of the Osamu Tezuka (Astroboy, Black Jack, etc.) manga Dororo was released to theaters. You can check out a trailer at the official Dororo site.
I have a bit of Dororo—untranslated, sadly—and the story has always fascinated me. A story summary follows after the cut.
Aachi & Ssipak
by Michael SignalStation
I found out yesterday while watching Day Watch (cool! more competent storytelling than Night Watch!) that a crazy piece of Korean animation is going to be playing at the Hole in the Head film festival here in SF.
Action packed insane Aeon Flux-y clip.
Holy cats. That's a lot of ludicrous! And violence! And action! And ludicrous violent action!
