Kid Koala and other beats

September 15th, 2009

Hey, did you know that noted Canadian turntablist Kid Koala is giving away his new album, The Slew? It's true!

I've got it downloaded, haven't listened yet, but the guy's a legend and I've liked most everything he's done, so it's worth checking out. Dude scratched a muted trumpet jazz solo once, so come on.

In other music-downloading news, I found a great weblog for instrumental oddness and beat-related fun: check out mixtape breaks when you have a chance. Right now, as I type this, they've got the DJ Shadow/Cut Chemist "Brain Freeze" collab up top, so that tells you their heart's in the right place.

Faith in Something

August 31st, 2009

Well, that's something.

On the linked page, you'll find a version of George Michael's "Faith" that starts like a camp-fire song, then starts including an Appalachian banjo sound and hand claps... it's like going to a sincere Bible Camp where the counselor doesn't know anything about George Michael, but sure does think the tune is catchy.

The Signal: EP056

Click here to go to the download page.

The Signal: EP056 - Reminding those machines they work for us, damn it. Hey, folks, welcome back. We've got a brand new mix waiting for you full of everything you like about The Signal, as well as the requisite amount of stuff you don't like, just to toughen you up. Help you grow hair on your chest. Quit crying-- if the kids see you crying, they'll tear you apart. Little animals.

The file is available for an unspecified limited time. If you're curious about the tracks in the mix, I've put the track list in the id3 tags. If you're new around here, I do that so I don't have a list of tracks on my site sitting around for Google to find. These are for us. To heck with strangers using search engines. Who needs 'em.

Notes are after this jump right here -->
