The Signal: EP064
March 13th, 2010
The Signal: EP064 - A selection of music not-exactly-guaranteed to lead to mind-controlled happiness and the absence of will, but take a shot and try it anyway. We got highs and lows, ladies and gentlemen, highs and lows. And a requisite cover version.
All the notes are after the jump. The file is available for a limited time only. Tracklist is in the id3 tags. The world keeps on turning.
Mutamassik vs Death Itself
March 9th, 2010I found out about Mutamassik via DJ /rupture and his split album with her stands as one of the best things he's put out. I loved her first album and was thrilled to find out that not only is there new music out from Mutamassik, it's being given away for free.
Pop over to wayne and wax to download Mutamassik's That Which Death Cannot Destroy. It's electronic with Middle Eastern sounds, some fuzz and static, and probably a fair amount of awesome.
The Signal: EP063
February 23rd, 2010
The Signal: EP063 music for tough guys and tough streets! But! Even though they hold uzis... every once in awhile this crummy world makes 'em cry! And they're not afraid to cry! Heck no! But they do bust every one of those tears in the chops! So they don't get any ideas!
Okay, enough exclamation points. It's the usual deal, good people. File's available for a limited time. Track list is in the id3 tags. Notes are behind the cut... unless you followed a link here, in which case, here are the notes:
The Signal: EP062
January 21st, 2010
The Signal: EP062 - This time out, we have a not-so-secret theme. Friend-of-SignalStation Ray introduced us to a slew of Japanese bands and, since we're away from the home computer, we thought it would be an interesting challenge to pull together a mix from only that source material.
The image is courtesy of Flickr user Okinawa Soba, who has a bunch of cool images licensed under Creative Commons. I put the image together using two of his originals. The linked download page will only be up for a limited time. Track list is in the id3 tags. The hidden ingredient is love. Notes are below the cut.
Let me know if you dig it.
Music News to Me
January 21st, 2010I don't read music news weblogs, really, but I had a bit of time tonight and found a few interesting things.
Interesting thing no. 1 - Peter Gabriel covering The Arcade Fire. With full orchestra. This is powerful stuff.
Apparently, he's doing a whole album of covers (and there's great stuff on the track list, if you follow the above link) with the idea that some/all of the artists he's covering will return the favor on a later album.
Interesting thing no. 2 - The New Pornographers are working on a new album and they've got some great guests lined up, including the lead guy from Beirut and the lead lady from St. Vincent. So now there's something in May to look forward to.
