daily dracula

Dracula [flipping through the letters he asked me to write so he can send them over a period of days and pretend he isn’t holding me hostage]: Why do each of these end with the “Like, Comment, and Subscribe” above your signature?

Me [eating a fly]: Algorithms, man.

The Signal: EP179

a parade of Walkman cassette players with the text The Signal: EP179

The Signal: EP179 – Exactly 45 minutes of music to snap your Walkman shut to, rhythmically, as if it were a percussion instrument. This time out we’ve got some rollicking rock, punk from Australia and Sweden, drum & bass, post-punk dub gems, surf and funk instrumentals, and more!

Download by clicking on the link (or image) above. The file is available only for a limited time. If you’re interested in the tracklist, it’s in the mp3 itself, in the id3 tags. If you’d like to receive an email every time a new mix is posted, you can ask to be added to the mailing list that I maintain by hand, like some sort of outlander posted in the wilderness.

twitter version:
I’ve signed this dumb ghost up for, like, at least three different Twitter accounts so far, but no, it prefers to write in blood on my wall.

I CAN’T RETWEET A BLOOD WALL, DUDE

mastodon version:

No one can follow your blood wall, dude. It’s just me and a growing pile of blood-soaked paper towels.

Amontillado

The trap is no longer set. But for one fine day, I was distributing invitations to friends to join a Discord server called A Cask of Amontillado. The only text chat room was called #a-small-space-behind-a-brick-wall and the only emoji was a pile of bricks.

A screenshot of a Discord server called A Cask of Amontillado. A single text channel called #a-small-place-behind-a-brick-wall contains a post from Montresor (he/him) that reads "Welcome. You can never leave." Underneath is a gif of a brick wall.

unboxing

no, what? I am not “opening like a cocoon, like a wet shuffling thing being, cracking free from a human frame, emerging as something new and terrible”

I’m just doing an unboxing video and I’m the box. Standard issue self-promotion. Like, comment, subscribe.

The Signal: EP178

The Signal: EP178 – Exactly 45 minutes of high fidelity digital sound, bringing the sounds of the world to you… no ticket required! This time out we’ve got some propulsive rock, some bossa nova-infused beats, a jazzy cover of a hip hop classic, Anatolian pop, Afghan beats, lowrider soul and more!

Download by clicking on the link (or image) above. The file is available only for a limited time. If you’re interested in the tracklist, it’s in the mp3 itself, in the id3 tags. I have an email list that gets notified when new mixes go up, but no way to join it outside of contacting me, so… yeah. I dunno, commercial mailing list services suck.

maybe a moon?

Bad news, folks, the design consultant we hired for the cult says we shouldn’t have tentacles in the logo. I told them “they’re not actually tentacles, that’s just how The Thing Outside looks like when viewed in three (or four) dimensions” and they said “well, that explanation doesn’t fit on a business card” so we’re back and square one.

The Signal: EP177

The Signal: EP177 – Exactly 45 minutes of music designed to slip inside your head with no friction, no wear and tear on your precious brain-loading components. There’s a lot to like this time out! We’ve got funky library music, retro-80s rock and shoegaze, a dub remix of some Yorke work, electronic beats from the UK, a bit of Italian movie soundtrack music, and more.

If you want to be on the mailing list to get notified when a new one goes out, you’re going to have to ask me. We’re going 100% artisanal on the mailing lists these days. Hand-crafted. No convenient sign-up page. Our ancestors didn’t need sign-up pages and neither do we.
